We have some breaking news for you today. Just this morning, Hidalgo County Commissioners’ Court passed a resolution opposing SB1070 and “any similar attempts by the Texas Legislature to create state laws and regulations that foster racial profiling or discrimination based on race, ethnicity or national origin and that attempts to place the responsibility over the enforcement of immigration laws on local law enforcement officials.”
The resolution goes on to say that the county “urges the President and Congress to address immigration reform in a humane, comprehensive, responsible way, with border communities like Hidalgo County as participants in those policy discussions.”
This is great news for the fight against SB1070 and the criminalization of immigrant communities. Check back soon for more news and analysis on this development.
